PROGRAMME 2012

 

‘A View from the Bramble Patch’ talk and AGM - Wednesday February 22nd
Our AGM followed by a slideshow and talk by Keith Kirby, a woodland expert from Natural England who has been seconded to the Forestry Panel.  He will talk on woodland conservation over the last 30 years.  Methodist Church, back door from Hereward St, Bourne.  7.30pm.  Open to public.  Tea and coffee provided.  Free but donations welcome.

Scavenging Day –Saturday March 10th
Come and help clear the wood and get some firewood into the bargain.  £5 per wheelbarrow. All saws provided – £5 refundable deposit.  Booking essential with Sarah on 07760468052.

Spring Bird Walk – Sunday March 25th
A morning walk to enjoy the early spring bird song and hopefully hear the first summer migrants.  Led by local enthusiast Vaughan Roberts.  Meet 9am, main car park.  Open to public.  Donation of £1 appreciated.

Treasure Trail – Easter Monday April 9th
A short trail around part of the wood, with a quiz to find a treasure at the end! Other children’s activities.  Drinks.  Signposted from car park.  Open to public.  2pm to 4pm.  Small charge for activities, but every entrant receives a prize.

Spring Flower Walk – Thursday May 3rd
A walk led by Dr Richard Jefferson, looking at wild flowers in the wood, especially those that are ancient woodland indicators.   Meet 7pm, main car park.  Open to public.  Donation of £1 appreciated. 

History of the Woods Walk – Sunday July 22nd
John Wilcockson, previously a forester at Bourne woods will lead us on a walk learning about the history of woods. Meet 2pm, main car park.  Open to public.  Donation of £1 appreciated.

Fruits of the Forest Walk – Sunday September 23rd
Learn which fruits you can use for what!  There are not just blackberries in the wood!  Led by the Wildlife Ranger, Willie McLaughlin.  Meet 2pm in main car park.  Open to public.  Donation of £1 appreciated.

Fungi Foray -  Sunday October 28th
Fingers crossed for more fungi this year!  Led by Dr Vin Fleming, find the fungi and let Vin identify them and tell you if they are edible.  Meet 2pm main car park.  Open to public.  Donation of £1 appreciated.

Weaving the willow sculpture – Saturday morning. November.
Date to be arranged nearer the time.  Phone 07760468052 for details.  Help us maintain this living sculpture.  No experience necessary as training will be given.  Meet Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne.  10am.

Santa in the Wood – Provisionally Sunday December 9th
A chance for children to visit Santa in the magic of the wood, as he travels through on his busy schedule.  He will be here 11am to 3pm.  Small charge to see Santa.  Other children’s activities, stalls.  Bourne Wood Car park.  Refreshments available.
