Monthly Nature Walk – First Saturday of every month
The monthly nature walk, the first Saturday of every month, commencing February 5th, at 9am from the forest office. All Friends and their families welcome – including dogs on leads.
Scavenging Day – Saturday January 29th
A chance to collect firewood for yourself from the wood after the felling. 10am to 3pm. Bring your own wheelbarrow and wear sensible clothing and footwear. £5 per wheelbarrow. Saws provided by FC - £5 refundable deposit required. Please book on 07760468052. Meet at main car park
Local Director talks on filming in Bourne Wood and AGM - Wednesday February 23rd
Our AGM followed by a talk by Martin Tempest, a local film director on the filming he has done in Bourne Wood. St John’s Ambulance Hall, St Peter’s Road, Bourne. 7.30pm. Open to public. Tea and coffee provided.
Treeguard Tidy – Saturday March 26th
Continuing on from last year, we will be tidying the wood, removing tree guards from some trees and tidying up those already discarded. A chance to do our bit to make the wood look tidier. Bring a flask and wear sensible clothing and shoes. All Friends welcome. Meet 10am at Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne. No charge.
Dinosaur Trail – Easter Monday April 25th
A short trail around part of the wood, with a quiz about these prehistoric beasts. Other children’s activities. Drinks. Signposted from car park. Open to public. 2pm to 4pm. Small charge for activities, but every entrant receives a prize.
Spring Bird Walk – Wednesday May 11th
An evening walk led by Vaughan Roberts, listening to and looking for our native birds and the summer migrants. Meet 7pm, main car park. Open to public. Donation of £1 appreciated.
Grasses Walk – Wednesday June 15th
Dr Richard Jefferson will lead this evening walk looking at the different types of grasses in the wood. Meet main car park, 7pm. Open to public. Donation of £1 appreciated.
St Barnabas Fete – Sunday July 3rd
We will be joining forces with St Barnabas hospice to hold a fete in the wood. There will be various children’s activities including treasure trail and stalls. Open to public. More details nearer the time on website.
Den Building – Sunday August 7th
This is a family competition, with the ratio of one parent to one child ideally. Guidance will be available for those new to the event, those with experience can add extra features. Numbers will be limited – so it is restricted to Friends in the first instance. If you would like to attend please phone 07760468052 to book. 2 sessions 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Cost £5 per family.
Forestry Management Walk – Sunday September 25th
Fraser Bradbury, the local beat forester will explain and show us how and why the wood is maintained as it is. Meet main car park, 2pm. Donation of £1 appreciated. Open to public.
Fungus Foray – Sunday 23rd October
A chance to hunt for fungi in the wood and then have them identified by expert Vin Fleming. Meet 2pm, main car park. Donation of £1 appreciated. Open to public.
Weaving the willow sculpture – Saturday morning. November.
Date to be arranged nearer the time. Phone 07760468052 for details. Help us maintain this living sculpture. No experience necessary as training will be given. Meet Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne. 10am.
Santa in the Wood – Sunday December 11th
A chance for children to visit Santa in the magic of the wood, as he travels through on his busy schedule. He will be here 11am to 3pm. Small charge to see Santa. Other children’s activities, stalls. Bourne Wood Car park. Refreshments available. Open to public.
