PROGRAMME 2010

Monthly Nature Walk – First Saturday of every month

The monthly nature walk, the first Saturday of every month, commencing February 6th, at 9am will now be from the forest office. It will not be led by an expert, but by a member of the Friends – just looking at what is about in the wood – whether it be birds, plants, signs of spring or animals. All Friends and their families welcome – including dogs on leads.

Herbs from the Hedgerows talk and AGM - Wednesday
February 24th

Our AGM followed by a slideshow and talk by Cheryl Joyce on herbal uses of plants found in the wood. St John’s Ambulance Hall, St Peter’s Road, Bourne. 7.30pm. Open to public. Tea and coffee provided. Treeguard Tidy – Saturday March 13th A morning spent tidying the wood, removing tree guards from some trees and tidying up those already discarded. A chance to do our bit to make the wood look tidier. Bring a flask and wear sensible clothing and shoes. All Friends welcome. Meet 10am at Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne. No charge.

Dinosaur Trail – Easter Monday April 5th

A short trail around part of the wood, with a quiz about these prehistoric beasts. No experience necessary as some of the questions will be suitable for adults! Other children’s activities. Drinks. Signposted from car park. Open to public. 2pm to 4pm. Small charge for activities, but every entrant receives a prize.

Spring Bird Walk – Thursday May 13th

A walk led by Vaughan Roberts, listening to and looking for our native birds and the summer migrants. We hope to hear the nightingale, but this is nature so who knows! Meet 7pm, main car park. Open to public. Donation of £1 appreciated.

Rotary Club of Bourne 5 mile Fun Run

Annual fun run around the wood in aid of national and local charities

Bat and Moth Night – Saturday June 12th

The Lincolnshire Bat Group will start the evening with a brief introduction before going off for a short walk to listen for bats with their detectors. We will end up at the moth trap with Dr David Sheppard, looking at moths, that may well be the bats dinner later! Meet Forest Office, Beech Avenue, Bourne, 9.30pm. Open to public. Donation of £1 appreciated.

Butterfly and Bug Walk – Sunday July 18th

A walk led by Dr David Sheppard, looking for butterflies and insects in the wood. Children are especially good at this as they are the right height. Meet 2pm, main car park. Open to public. Donation of £1 appreciated.

Den Building – Sunday August 1st

This is a family competition, with the ratio of one parent to one child ideally. Guidance will be available for those new to the event, those with experience can add extra features. Numbers will be limited – so it is restricted to Friends in the first instance. If you would like to attend please phone 07760468052 to book. 2 sessions 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm. Cost £5 per family.

Weaving the willow sculpture – Saturday morning. November.

Date to be arranged nearer the time. Phone 07760468052 for details. Help us maintain this living sculpture. No experience necessary as training will be given. Meet Forest Office, Beech Ave, Bourne. 10am. Santa in the Wood – Sunday December 12th
