Even a few spots of rain didn't put the 40 or so people who joined us for our Spring Flower Walk. This is always popular and more so this year and we were not disappointed.
Dr Jefferson's experience and enthusiasm made the walk interesting and educational. There was something for everyone - we started with the more common species such as bluebell, primrose and dog violet, and he then went on to show us male and female dogs mercury plants that live completely separately, which even the more knowledgeable people did not know!
As we walked along we saw greater stitchwort, bugle and the leaves of the earlier flowering coltsfoot. The star of the evening had to be the early purple orchids which had an impressive display this year. We think we saw most of the species there was there to see during a very successful walk - concentrating not only on flowers but venturing off onto grasses and trees. Now all we have to do is remember them on our walks around the wood!
