PAST EVENTS OF FRIENDS OF BOURNE WOOD
2006
Spring Bird Walk – Friday April 28th
This is always a very popular event, with between 25- 30 people attending. Spring was late this year, and the nightingale had only just arrived, but we were lucky and heard one on the walk again this year. We heard some other migrants such as the chiffchaff and willow warbler. The resident birds were also out in force with jays, woodpeckers, chaffinches and tits. In all we heard or saw a marvelous diverse selection and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Dinosaur Trail – Monday 17th April
Around 180- 200 children took part accompanied by their parents and grandparents.
The first game was a fun quiz set around the dinosaur trail, with easy questions relating to the dinosaurs you could see. The second game was a picture crossword game, with the answer making the name of another dinosaur. The final game for children to do was a joke game, with the answers all jumbled up, relating to dinosaurs of course! Children received a small prize for doing each game, and some did all three!
AGM/ Woodlands for all talk
Our AGM this year included a talk on the Woodland Trust. A very informative and interesting evening learning about the aims of the trust, and how it tries to achieve them, and indeed the wider picture of global warming. Our speaker, Richard Smithers was very enthusiastic and I think we all went home thinking should we be doing more.

Santa in the Wood – Sunday December 12th
Santa made a noisy entrance this year, running through the wood with his elves. We had 230 children to visit him and his elves in his grotto. The mayor, Judy Smith and her consort, came to visit Santa too, and the photo made the front page of the Local. The friends received a letter from the mayor saying how much she had enjoyed her trip.
Willow Sculpture maintenance
A few of us started tidying up the willow sculpture in November, but as there was so much growth, and not much help we had to go back in March and finish off. |
